Biomimicry: What We Risk If We Ignore Nature's Design - Dr. Dayna Baumeister How we can learn from nature to be more resilient, self-sustaining, and raise better adapted kids. Dr. Dayna Baumeister is a researcher, consultant, and educator in the field of biomimicry. She is the co-founder Biomimicry 3.8., a project that trains change-makers in sustainable design principles inspired by nature’s forms, processes, and ecosystems. Dayna and her business partner Janine Benyus have developed the biomimicry movement as a response to the world’s sustainability problems. In this episode we talk about how we can learn from nature to be more resilient and self-sustainable, raise better adapted kids, and adopt the everyday practices to improve our chances of overcoming the climate and economic challenges ahead. In This Episode of Future Thinkers: - What is biomimicry and how it informs systems design and decision making - Why teaching resilience is key to the education for uncertain future - The role of developing countries in providing innovative and creative solutions to social, economic and climate challenges - What are some of the potential scenarios of the future - Why global scaling of technological solutions almost never works long-term - How communities can be created that are more sustainable, healthy and in line with nature - Four C's and 26 Life's Principles as guidelines for agency and systems change - How to apply biomimicry principles to social innovation and human interactions Mentions From This Episode: - Biomimicry 3.8, https://biomimicry.net/ - The Biomimicry Institute, https://biomimicry.org/ - Designlens: Life's Principles download, https://ift.tt/2OmorqO - P21 - Partnership for 21st Century Learning, http://tiny.cc/su28fz - Dana Meadows, systems thinker, https://ift.tt/1RRnBPa - HOK, a design, architecture, engineering and urban planning company, https://www.hok.com/ - Zelfo Technology, https://ift.tt/1JqfqVP More From Future Thinkers: - FTP106, 107: Nora Bateson - The Complexities of Climate Change and Cultural Evolution, https://ift.tt/2prbFyu - FTP105: Jim Rutt - Game B: The Fifth Attractor, A New Social OS, https://ift.tt/2UMiCWi - FTP090, 091: Joe Brewer - Rites of Passage for Cultural Evolution, https://ift.tt/2Y1rbgW - FTP081, 082: Charles Eisenstein - The New Story of Climate And Humanity, https://ift.tt/2GuOQlu #biomimicry #design #sustainability #nature #resilience #future #climate #change #adaptation #education #creativity #innovation #economy #cities #urban #technology #community #society #evolution #consciousness #podcasts #podcasting #video
